Parents and Teachers Association

At PS29, our PTA thrives on the strong partnership between our dedicated staff and our creative, hard-working parent community. Together, we build connections that support our children and enrich our school.

All parents and guardians of PS29 students are automatically members of the PTA, as are all teachers at the school.

Our mission is to:
• Foster a vibrant, welcoming community within PS29 and with the greater neighborhood community.
• Strengthen communication and collaboration between families, school staff, administration, and community leaders.
• Raise funds to provide a wide variety of educational and cultural programs, materials, and initiatives for our students.

The PTA meets monthly in the school auditorium. Please see the dates for the current academic year below.

DONATE. VOLUNTEER. PARTICIPATE. Your involvement is more important now than ever. Consider attending PTA meetings, being a class parent, volunteering to help with events, helping to raise and/or contribute money, or volunteering your skills and talents within a Committee.

What the PTA funds

The PS29 PTA is an active and vital part of the school. Through our fundraising, we are able to provide additional resources and programs for every student within our school. The PTA works closely with the PS29 Administration to support school initiatives, programs, and services that are not covered by the DOE. The PTA funds:

  • PROGRAM SUPPORT for math and the arts. This line item looks one year ahead and is paid out in June for the next fiscal year.

  • ARTS, MUSIC & THEATER ENRICHMENT through collaborations with partners like Freestyle Repertory Theatre and grade-wide enrichments, such as yoga and mindfulness, ballroom dancing, and chess, and opportunities for our students to experience real world applications such as our newspaper, running club, and green team.

  • LITERACY, MATH & SCIENCE ENRICHMENT such as school-wide read alouds, program support for science, including STEM lab, the garden, and the wellness and greening of our school.

  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT to ensure our teachers have the best knowledge and latest teaching techniques to provide our kids with great learning experiences.

  • SUPPLIES, ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT, & CAPITAL MAINTENANCE for essential supplies, building maintenance, workshops and seminars for families, and funding to help support related services.

How we raise funds

Only a small portion of our budget comes from direct donations. The majority is raised through activities and events that both incur expenses and require thousands of volunteer hours. Our school is home to a wonderfully diverse community, and we can’t do this without you, whether it’s giving your time, making a donation, or pitching in at an event.

  1. APPEAL & DONATIONS - Direct donations are our most effective source of funding. Every dollar goes directly to supporting PS29 programs, and all contributions are tax-deductible. If your employer offers a matching gift or corporate donation program, we encourage you to take advantage of it to maximize your impact. No gift is too small, and donating online is fast and simple.

  2. AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM - PS29 Plus, our after-school program provides a safe, fun environment for students, valuable support for families, and generates a modest profit to help fund school programs.

  3. ACTIVITIES & EVENTS - From community gatherings like Movie Night, Eat Pie Shop, Super Science Saturday, and the PS29 Block Party, to fundraising initiatives like the Annual Benefit & Auction and merchandise sales, our activities both build connections and raise essential funds. Volunteers are always needed to make these events a success. We post a digital sign-up sheet before each event and send out numerous updates via our Monday emails. Please see our Event Schedule or contact us directly to volunteer with one of these exciting activities.
