Arrival and Dismissal

Please Read Your Grade Specific Arrival and Dismissal Procedures Carefully.

Arrival and dismissal procedures will be staggered.

School Yard before and after arrival:

  • The school yard will be closed prior to arrival due to our extensive, staggered arrival schedule below. We cannot clear the yard prior to arrival at 8:25 AM. 

  • The yard will reopen to the public at 2:30 PM as we will need to clear the yard immediately following dismissal.

PreK

Kindergarten

Grade 1

Grade 2

Grades 3, 4 + 5

 

Pre-Kindergarteners 

Arrival: 8:30 AM / Dismissal 1:50 PM from classroom. 

Note: Doors will open at 8:25 AM for arrival and 1:45 PM for dismissal to allow time for temperature checks at the door and social distancing practices. You will need to show the results of your DOE health screening each time you enter the building.  This includes both arrival and dismissal.

ARRIVAL

  • Pre-K students and families (1 adult per child) will enter through the main doors at 8:30 AM. Students will be escorted to the classroom by their caregivers. Families will exit through the main doors by no later than 8:40 AM.

    • There will be staff members on site who will ensure social distancing and manage the flow of traffic to adhere to social distancing protocols.

    • Temperature check at the door facilitated by Safety Agent for adults + P.S. 29 staff member for students. 

    • The caregiver who is dropping off should make sure to familiarize themselves with DOE health screening requirements before entering the school building. Please check the DOE health screening requirements here. 

    • If you have children in grades K-5 that you are bringing to school for arrival, we will have a designated area in the outer cafeteria for your other child to wait while you bring your Pre-K child to the classroom. If you are bringing a younger sibling that you’re carrying in your arms, you can bring that child to the classroom with you.

DISMISSAL

  • Pre-K: 1:50 PM from the classroom.  Please arrive at 1:45 for a temperature check and to show your health screening confirmation before heading to the classroom for pickup. 

  • If caregivers have additional children with them for pick-up during dismissal, those children can remain in the outer cafeteria at a designated socially distanced area. If the additional child is too young to wait in the designated area, s/he could accompany the caregiver to the classroom for pick-up.   

  • Families will exit through the main doors after picking up their Pre-K’er by no later than 1:58 PM.​

Kindergarteners

Arrival: 8:40 AM in schoolyard/ Dismissal 2:00 PM from the schoolyard line spots.

ARRIVAL

  • Students will enter the schoolyard via the Kane Street and Baltic Street gates at 8:40 AM with 1st and 2nd graders (without families accompanying them). Please note that there is a modified arrival schedule (the time has been adjusted as well as allowing for the accompaniment of caregivers) for the first couple of days for each Cohort. We will be sending out these details to Kindergarten families in advance.

    • Kindergarteners will be forming circles that align with the painted circles on the concrete between the school building and the benches.

    • The classroom teachers will be there prior to the gate opening.

    • There will be signs indicating the specific class and teacher as well as markers on the ground to ensure social distancing.

Please Note:

  • Each Small Class Group (SCG) teacher will conduct temperature screenings in the school yard outside of the building before the child is allowed to enter the building.

DISMISSAL 

  • 2 PM from schoolyard line spots.

  • One caregiver per family will be permitted into the school yard at a time for pick-up. 

  • This is not a time for lingering or holding conversations with teachers or one another.

  • You will need to exit the yard immediately after picking up your child as the yard will be closed to the public until 2:30 PM

LATE PICK-UP PROTOCOLS

  • Students who have not been picked up will be escorted to the “Late Line” in the outer cafeteria on the Baltic Street side. 

    • K, 1st, and 2nd grade: Late pick-up begins at 2:05 PM

  • Families will have to enter the school building using the main entrance to pick up their children at this time.

  • The school yard will be closed following dismissal until 2:30 PM to ensure a socially distanced dismissal period.  At 2:30, the school yard will resume as a socially distanced play space for our community. Please note: Masks are required on all individuals that are in the school yard - even after school hours, as these are NYC Park Rules.

1st Graders

Arrival: 8:40 AM /Dismissal 2:00 PM from the schoolyard line spots.

ARRIVAL

  • Students will enter the school yard via the Kane Street and Baltic Street gates at 8:40 AM with Kindergarteners and 2nd graders (without families accompanying them). Please note that the arrival routines for the first couple of days have been adjusted to allow for caregivers to accompany 1st graders for the first couple of days for each Cohort. Detailed information will be shared with 1st grade families.

    • 1st graders will line up at the traditional 1st-grade line-up area by the fence along Baltic Street. 

    • The classroom teacher will be there prior to the gate opening.

    • There will be signs indicating the specific class and teacher as well as markers on the ground to ensure social distancing.

    • Please note that classroom teachers will be leading their SCGs into the building via the Baltic Street door. This means that we have an extensive plan involving staff members that are stationed to inform the teachers when it’s all-clear to move their SCG from the gated area to the doors adhering to social distancing.

Note: Gates will open at 8:25 AM for arrival .

ARRIVAL

  • 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade - Students will enter the school yard on their own without an adult accompanying them beginning at 8:25 AM. 

    • 3rd graders will line up by the benches by the trees. 

    • 4th graders will line up by the back mural near the play yard.

    • 5th graders will line up by the back mural near Baltic Street. 

    • The classroom teacher will be there prior to the gate opening.

    • There will be signs indicating the specific class and teacher as well as markers on the ground to ensure social distancing.

Please Note:

  • Each Small Class Group (SCG) teacher will conduct temperature screenings in the school yard outside of the building before the child is allowed to enter the building.

DISMISSAL

  • 3rd, 4th, and 5th: 1:50 PM from the school yard line spots.

  • One caregiver per family will be permitted into the school yard at a time for pick-up. 

  • We are encouraging 4th and 5th grade families to allow for self-dismissal to reduce the number of people in our yard. (Email your child’s teacher if you would like your 4th or 5th grader to self-dismiss. Documentation is required for allowing students to self dismiss)

  • Once you have picked up your child, you must exit the school yard immediately. We will be  moving students and caregivers out of the yard promptly to make room for the next group of students who will be dismissing at a staggered time. 

  • PLEASE NOTE: If you are a caregiver who picked up an upper grade student during the first dismissal and you are waiting to pick up another child from the lower grade dismissal at 2 PM, you must wait inside the center of the school yard on the painted surface. Please do not take your child off their line until the teacher reaches the line spot and begins the dismissal procedures. This is to ensure everyone’s safety.

  • This is not a time for lingering or holding conversations with teachers or one another.

LATE PICK-UP PROTOCOLS:

  • Students who have not been picked up will be escorted to the “Late Line” in the outer cafeteria on the Baltic Street side. 

    • 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade: Late pick-up begins at 1:55 PM

  • Families will have to enter the school building using the main entrance to pick up their children at this time.

  • The school yard will be closed following dismissal until 2:30 PM to ensure a socially distanced dismissal period.  At 2:30, the school yard will resume as a socially distanced play space for our community.
