PTA-Sponsored Events
Welcome to PS29 PTA Events!
Each event offers many ways to get involved, whether hands-on or behind the scenes.
Volunteer sign-ups will be posted here, so check back often. Up-to-date information about
each event will also be included in the PTA Monday emails.
Throughout the year, the PS29 PTA hosts a wide variety of events that both raise funds for our school and bring our community together. Most are family-friendly and open to the neighborhood, while a few are designed just for adults. Either way, they’re always a great way to connect and support PS29. The following list includes our traditional signature events. In addition, each year we aim to introduce 2–3 smaller gatherings focused on community rather than fundraising. While these events are not yet set, details will be shared by email and posted on our Events page with plenty of advance notice.

EVENT DESCRIPTIONS
BACK TO SCHOOL HANGOUT
Just before school, we invite new and existing PS29 families to get together in the school yard. This informal meet-up allows children to reconnect after the summer and for new kids to meet and get ready for their first year at PS29. We will have PS29 merch for sale and tie dying available. Bring other things to do – chalk, sport balls, jump ropes and a water bottle!
MOVIE NIGHT
Each September we host a family Movie Night in the school yard. Bring blankets and chairs and grab your spot. The event is free but we offer a concession stand with treats and drinks.
29 CHEERS
29 Cheers is the first event of the school year just for grown-ups! This event is held on a weeknight in the fall at a few local restaurants. There will be suggested venues for each grade. It’s a wonderful way to meet new folks and catch up with old friends!
RUMMAGE SALES (FALL & SPRING)
The Rummage Sale is a favorite event for the entire neighborhood! PS29 families and community members are welcome to donate gently used clothing, footwear, textiles, Halloween costumes, and stuffed toys (no soiled clothing, books, or plastic toys, please). All items are offered for sale at just $2! There will also be an electronics recycling option, and everything collected will be: Re-used, Re-purposed, or Recycled. Items can be dropped off anytime between 10:30 am and 3 pm on the day of the event. We cannot accept donations before the day of the sale. On the day of the sale, we kindly ask that you help us sort your items on the appropriate tables inside and not leave your donation bags outside the building doors. Thank you for helping us keep things organized!
PHOTO DAY
Possibly the cutest day of the year! This is a great event to volunteer for; it’s busy and fun and you can schedule your volunteer time when your kiddo has their session. Irvin Simon takes class and individual student photos. Your photo purchases raise money for the school.
EAT PIE & SHOP
PS 29’s Sweetest event - Eat Pie & Shop - is a fabulous holiday event in December that seems to get better each year! This event includes a holiday market for both kids and adults, a pie contest, professional portraits, and crafts and games. And of course you get to eat pie! Stay tuned for more details and volunteer sign ups.
SUPER SCIENCE SATURDAY
What is Super Science Saturday? It is a Saturday in March when PS29 is transformed into our very own hands-on science museum. A day when our kids see that science is the coolest. A day collaboratively conceptualized and planned by PS29 parents and our science teachers, Tina Reres and Molly Dubow. Most importantly, it’s a day when kids and their caregivers celebrate the love of learning something new, together. Children can participate in workshops, explore science concepts and watch demonstrations that illustrate science concepts we all know and love. This day requires lots of hands-on volunteers. Check out our website for more information, volunteer sign ups, and tickets. Questions? Feel free to email us at ps29superscience@gmail.com.
ANNUAL BENEFIT + AUCTION
Join us for this super fun party and biggest fundraiser of the year! Enjoy drinks, food, dancing and participate in the silent auction; it’s supremely fun and a great night out (adults only.) Bidding is online and starts a few weeks before the event; this means grandparents, neighbors and friends can also bid on items! Stay tuned for more information and ways to help.
BLOCK PARTY
The PS 29 Block Party is held in the PS 29 school yard in May or June each year. This incredible event is fun for the whole family and open to the entire community! Like an old fashioned carnival - enjoy food, games, bouncy houses, arts and crafts activities and the biggest hits – face painting and hair coloring! Planning starts early and the event’s success is entirely dependent on great volunteers. We hope you like cotton candy!
SUMMER READING CHALLENGE
This summer fundraiser is a contest to help make reading fun. Students keep track of the number of minutes they read and ask friends and family to sponsor their reading. Kids who log at least 30 minutes or more of reading over the summer, will be invited to a fall pizza party and will earn a certificate and small prize! Details are sent home in your child’s backpack in June.
