PTA-Sponsored Events

Thanks for coming to check out our events! There are many ways to get involved for each of these; both hands-on and behind-the-scenes. Check back in for volunteer sign ups.

The PS 29 PTA hosts a series of fantastic events throughout the school year. These events are a fun way to help raise money for our school and get to know our amazing community! While most events are geared towards families and the greater community, some events are adult only.

2019-2020 PTA Events Calendar

Please contact the PTA at ps29pta@gmail.com with any questions. We’d love to hear from you.

BACK TO SCHOOL HANGOUT

Just before school, we invite new and existing PS29 families to get together in the school yard. This informal meet-up allows children to reconnect after the summer and for new kids to meet and get ready for their first year at PS29. Bring things to do – chalk, sport balls,  jump ropes and a water bottle! Wednesday, September 4, 2019 4-6PM

MOVIE NIGHT

Each September we host a family Movie Night in the school yard. Bring blankets and chairs and grab your spot. The event is free but we offer a concession stand with treats, novelty toys and hot chocolate. Friday, September 20, 2019 6:30PM

29 CHEERS

29 Cheers is the first event of the school year just for grown-ups! This event is held on a weeknight in the fall at a local restaurant. In past years, Strong Place (on Court Street), Vekslers (on Hicks Street) and Toby’s Public House (on Columbia Street) have graciously hosted PS29 parents, teachers, staff and administrators for an evening of drinks and light snacks. It’s a wonderful way to meet new folks and catch up with old friends.  TBD

BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS (FALL & SPRING)

At this bi-annual event, PS 29 parents, teachers and alumni participate in a warm-up game of knock-out followed by a school-wide three-on-three tournament in the school yard. All skill levels are welcome. A donation is suggested but not required. Lace up your sneakers and join us by singing up here (link coming soon!)! Sunday, October 20, 2019 9-11AM and Sunday, May 3, 2020 9-11AM

RUMMAGE SALES (FALL & SPRING)

The Rummage Sale is a favorite event for the entire neighborhood! PS29 families – and community members too – bring electronics and textiles and clothing to the PS29 Schoolyard on Baltic Street. Clothing and shoes are offered for sale at just $1!

Everything collected will be: Re-used, Re-purposed, or Recycled. Electronics will be collected by the Lower East Side Ecology Center to be recycled. Unsold clothing and textiles will be  recycled by Wearable Collections. Stained & ripped clothing and textiles welcome (to recycle not to sell.) No books or toys please. Textiles & shoes only. Items can be dropped off anytime between 10:30 am and 3 pm on the day of the event.  Sunday, October 20, 2019 11-3PM and Sunday, May 3, 2020 11-3PM

BOOK FAIRS (FALL & SPRING)

The Book Fair is a well-loved fundraising and community event that raises money for our school and brings books to our classrooms. It’s a super fun event that keeps our students excited about reading. The Book Fair will feature a carefully curated selection of children’s books from Fork & Pencil and high-quality educational toys and travel activities (toys will not be sold during school hours.)

We also have Teacher Wish Lists; you can purchase these books for the classrooms. Classes visit the Book Fair throughout the week; the schedule will be posted and you can sign up to volunteer when your child attends. This year’s fairs will take place November 14-21, 2019

PHOTO DAY

Possibly the cutest day of the year! This is a great event to volunteer for; it’s busy and fun and you can schedule your volunteer time when your kiddo has their session. Irvin Simon takes class and individual student photos. Your photo purchases raise money for the school. A class schedule will be posted closer to the date. Photo Day will be Thursday, November 12, 2019.

BAKE SALE

Remember when the only fundraiser a school had was a bake sale? This modern day bake sale offers sweet treats as well as sandwiches and savory items. Coffee and beverages too. So many opportunities to donate time and efforts. Tuesday, November 5, 2019
