Kick Butts Day Moved to Thursday, June 12th!
Due to tomorrow’s weather forecast, Kick Butts Day has been rescheduled to Thursday, June 12th! If you're available to volunteer on the new date, please make sure to sign up here!
Kick Butts Day is BACK
Now: Thursday June 12th!
Location: Pier 2, Brooklyn Bridge Park (Turf Area)
We are proud to announce that we will be hosting our annual Kick Butts Day! During this event, fourth and fifth grade students will take a stand against smoking, vaping and big tobacco companies. As part of a nationwide celebration of “Kick Butts Day”, they will stage a multi-event track meet and exercise their legs and lungs while voicing their strong opposition to tobacco products including flavored e-cigarettes, menthol cigarettes and vaping! We focus on the development of life skills around making good choices, learning how to say no despite peer pressure, and celebrating strong bodies and self-image.We are especially committed to staging this event, as Kick Butts Day has become a particularly memorable event for all. Together the anti-smoking/vaping curriculum and the events have resulted in lasting impressions and increased confidence to say “NO!” to these harmful products. We look forward to raising voices and awareness! The message and spirit of the day has given them confidence to say “NO!” countless times since they have left PS 29!The track and field events will include some of the following: 60-meter hurdles, ¼ mile run, standing long jump/shot put, 4x100 relay, Hot Spots, and Knock-out.Here’s what you need to know:
Kick Butts Day will officially begin at about 9:30 AM.
Families are encouraged to come as spectators but have to remain outside of the event area.
We will need about 20 parent volunteers.
Please sign up here if you are able to volunteer Thursday, June 12th!
Volunteers are needed for the following:
Set up for the event (8:00-9:30 AM)
Running events (9:30 AM till Kick Butts Day ends)
Clean up after Kick Butts Day (estimated by 1:00 PM)
Fifth grade students will need a new plain white T-shirt to participate in this event. Fourth grade students will use their Philadelphia field trip T-shirts. With the help of their classroom teacher(s), all students will create their own anti-tobacco designs.
All T-shirts need to be labeled with your child’s name on the inside tag and brought to your child’s teacher ASAP. Deadline was Friday, May 23rd.
Your child must wear sneakers to participate in events (no crocs and no exceptions!).
Provide your child with a water bottle, snack and sunscreen.
Thank you so much for your support! We could not do this event without your partnership. If you have any questions, please email Liz at lcosentino@ps29bk.org and Coach Stephanie at ps29runningteam@gmail.com
We look forward to cheering and supporting all of the kids as they live the message of the day!
Sincerely,
Liz, Coach Stephanie, Rebecca, Dawn & Halee
