Candidates for the 2021-2022 PTA Executive Board listed below.

Co-Presidents (2 open positions)

Kim Brooks

She is the parent of two current P.S. 29 students, third-grader, Poppy, and Kindergartener, Frankie. She has been an active volunteer at the school for the past few years, most recently as a Co-Vp of Class Parents and Volunteers on the P.T.A Executive Board. She enjoys connecting with as many families as possible within the school community and is grateful for the network of warm, compassionate families she has built during her time as a parent at P.S. 29. Kim is looking forward to the opportunity to take on a leadership role within the school’s P.T.A, where she hopes to reignite a strong sense of community after a difficult period of collective loss and time apart. Prior to spending the past few years raising two resilient daughters and being involved with the school, Kim worked in Higher Education administration for the City University of New York. Both her background in Student Affairs, and her current experience within the school will be invaluable assets as a Co-President of the P.T.A. She is confident in her ability to engage with the school community at large, maintain a strong relationship with the school administration, and lead a team of other parent volunteers.

Emily Chan

She is a mom of three: Evan (PS29 Class of 2020), Ingrid (3rd grade) and Edith (Kindergarten). She has served on the PTA Executive Board previously as co-Treasurer, currently as co-VP of Fundraising, volunteered on the Afterschool committee, and has had numerous stints as a class parent. While not at PS29, Emily works full-time managing the debt portfolio at NYU. Emily has been so grateful for the resilience of PS29 and is committed to helping the school and its community reinvigorate and thrive after an unprecedented year!

I am also an active member in the community, serving on two non-profit boards based in Brooklyn, one of which helps students with low-income backgrounds become first-generation college students. I also coach my children and several PS29 teammates in local sports leagues. In the year before covid, I was a member of the gala committee and would be excited to become a board member for next year. T

I understand the importance of after-school programming to both students and families, and plan on drawing on my experience to ensure that PS 29’s program is engaging and safe for all. When not chasing after my kids in the PS 29 school yard or at Van Vorhees, I work in public service in New York City.

Co-VP Fundraising (3 open positions)

Teresa Llorente

I'm a mom of 2nd grade twin boys Alex and Max. I've been a volunteer at various PS 29 school events and served as class parent a few times. I’ve seen how hard the administration and PTA work over the years, especially during this pandemic, and I would like to do what I can to help. I'm hoping to help PS29 with its fundraising and school events and adapt them to whatever the next school year looks like. I’m a full-time design and construction project manager, avid eater of baked goods and all-around cheerleader for my boys.
