SLT – Open Parent Position

The PS 29 School Leadership Team (SLT) has 1 vacancy for a parent representative. The vacancy is for a 1.5 year term (Jan. 2019-June 2020)

What is the SLT?
Every school in New York City has an SLT, as required by the Chancellor’s Regulation A-655. Comprised of administrators, teachers/staff, and parents, the committee meets on a monthly basis to discuss the school-based policies and practices that affect your child’s educational experience at PS 29. The SLT consists of equal parts parent and staff membership, along with Dr. Rebecca Fagin, the principal of PS 29.

The SLT oversees, among other things, the development and monitoring of the Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP), a strategic planning document that lays out the priorities, goals, and objectives for each school year. In addition, at PS 29, each SLT member participates as a member of a subcommittee to tackle more specific issues and initiatives affecting the school. Current subcommittees include: IDEA, Wellness, Learning Support, STEAM, Community Service, Visiting Authors, Grants, and Education Action.  Subcommittees also meet once a month . SLT monthly meetings, which you must attend, are held the third week each month on Thursday, 5:00 PM at school.

Eligibility
Our goal is to encourage the broadest possible participation and representation, across all grades, of our wonderfully diverse parent community who will represent all voices of our school’s population. Members of SLT are required to have at least one year of SLT subcommittee involvment.

What If I Run But Don’t Get Elected?
SLT meetings are always open to the entire PS 29 community.  We would still hope you come and share your thoughts, views, and enthusiasm at the monthly meetings or by participating on one of the subcommittees.
