FAQ’s for New Kindergarten Families

Welcome to PS 29!

We are so happy to welcome you to the PS 29 family. Here are answers to some frequently asked questions.

When is the first day of school? The first day of school is Thursday, September 7th and is a half
day for all Kindergarten students with dismissal at 11:45 AM. Starting on Friday, September 8th the
regular school day schedule begins for all Kindergarten students.

What time does the school day start and end for Kindergarten? The school day starts at 8:30 AM and ends at 2:45 PM. Parents or caregivers drop-off and pick up at the classroom door. Kindergarten families enter through the main entrance on Henry St.

Do I need to pack a lunch or is there school lunch available? You can either send home lunch or your child can have school lunch. Lunch forms and information on how to create a lunch account will be sent out on the first days of school. Every child will be fed if they wish to have school lunch, even if you have not yet set up an account. Kindergarten has lunch from 11:05-12:05 PM.

Is there an early drop-off option for Kindergarten students?

Yes, you can drop off starting at 7:30 AM in the morning, directly in the cafeteria. Children can enjoy a free breakfast if they are dropped off early. There is no need to register for early drop-off or breakfast.

Is there an after school program at PS 29? How and when do I register my child?

Yes, PS 29 has a PTA run after school program called PS 29 Plus. There are two options available, Kids Club, which is after school childcare available every day, and after school courses in both the fall and spring sessions. Registration for after-school Kids Club and courses begins sometime in late August. We recommend checking the website towards the second half of August when the course catalogue becomes available. You can also create an account with PS 29 Plus (select pre-register option) so that you receive the email notifications they send out once registration opens up.

When will I know which class and teacher my child has been assigned to?

You will be receiving your teacher and placement letter by mail towards the end of the summer.

Can I ask for a specific teacher or a request a change of class?

Our administration and teachers go through a very thoughtful process and work hard to make sure all

classes are balanced. There are NO changes to class assignments.
