Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL PROCEDURES FOR THE 2016-17 SCHOOL YEAR

Please take a moment to read all the information related to your child’s grade.

All doors to school open at 8:28 AM

Please note that parents will not be allowed into the school building ( or school lobby)  before the doors open at 8:28AM (except for early drop-off) in the morning and 2:45 PM in the afternoon.

For EARLY drop-off: FREE breakfast is available to all children in the cafeteria, every day, starting at 7:30 AM and ending at 8:10 AM

Pre-Kindergarteners: 

All Pre-K families enter the school through the main entrance on Henry Street. The doors to the school open at 8:28 AM sharp.

For safety reasons, families are not allowed to wait inside the lobby area of the school. We need to allow for access into and out of the building, and thus we ask that you wait on the sidewalk.

For the first two days ONLY please follow the phase-in schedule outlined in the letter you received.

First full day of Pre-K –the entire class attends:

8:30 to 2:45 PM

Starting Tuesday, September 13:  Doors to the school open at 8:28 AM. Parents and caregivers must drop off at (8:28) and pick up (2:45) their children at their classrooms. Again, we ask that you do not block the doors to the school building as you wait for our security agent to open the doors for arrival and dismissal. We need to allow for access into and out of the building, and thus we ask that you wait on the sidewalk.

IMPORTANT SAFETY POLICY: If you are picking up another child in grades 1-5, we ask that you exit the building through the front and walk around the school building to the schoolyard where students in grades 1-5 are picked up. Families should not walk through the school building directly into the school yard as classes are being dismissed at that time.

Further, parents/caregivers may not re-enter the school building through the school yard doors. Parents and caregivers must walk around the school building and use the front entrance where our security guard is stationed  in order to enter the school building. This is for the safety of our students and staff members.*

Kindergarteners:

Please enter through the main entrance on Henry Street and go up the main staircase to the second floor. Doors to the school open at 8:28 AM. We ask that you do not block the doors to the school building as you wait for our security agent to open the doors for arrival and dismissal. We need to allow for access into and out of the building, and thus we ask that you wait on the sidewalk.

For the first day of school ONLY, Kindergarten will have a half-day from 8:30 AM to 11:50 AM. Parents and caregivers drop off and pick-up directly in classrooms.

Starting September 9th, parents and caregivers must drop off (8:30) and pickup (2:45) their children directly from their classrooms.

1st Graders:

Arrival: 8:30 AM / Dismissal: 2:50 PM

Please enter through the school doors on Baltic Street and go to the 3rd floor. Doors will open at 8:28 AM and close at 8:35 AM. For the first three days of school (September 8th, 9th and 13th) you may bring your children directly to their classrooms, but starting September 14th, supervision will be in place to assist students as they go up to their classrooms on their own. Parents will not be permitted to escort their child to classrooms beginning September 14th.

Dismissal for the first three days (September 8th, 9th and 13th) will take place in the classroom. Parents/caregivers should remain in the hallway and the teacher will call your child.

Beginning Tuesday, September 13th dismissal will take place in the schoolyard at 2:50 PM. We ask that parents /caregivers wait to enter the school yard until a staff member opens the gates at 2:50 PM. 
Students will line up for pick-up inside the school yard on the Baltic Street side of the building in numeric order. There will be signs with class and teacher’s name.

*Please be on time as we have very limited staff to watch kids after teachers dismiss at 2:50 PM. Please also note that parents/caregivers may not enter the school building at any time through the school yard doors. Parents and caregivers must walk around the school building and use the front entrance where our security guard is stationed  in order to enter the school building.This is for the safety of our students and staff members.*

2nd Graders: 

Please enter through the school doors on Kane Street. Doors will open at 8:28 AM and close at 8:35 AM. September 8th and 9th you may bring your children directly to their classrooms, but starting September 13th, supervision will be in place to assist students as they go up to their classrooms on their own, and so should be dropped off at the Kane Street doors. Parents will not be permitted to escort their child to class beginning on September 13th.

This is for the safety of our students and staff members.**

3rd, 4th  and 5th Graders:  

Please line up in the school yard at your class spot starting at 8:25AM –there will be signs with class and teacher’s name. Students will go up to their classroom with the classroom teacher on September 8th and 9th.  Beginning September 13th, staff members will supervise students as they line up in the yard by class at their class spot and enter the building.

Arrival: 8:30/Dismissal: 2:50

For pick-up: We ask that parents /caregivers wait to enter the school yard until a staff member opens the gates at 2:50PM.

Once the gates open we ask that parents /caregivers pick up students from their class spot.

Please note dismissal spots in the school yard

o    3rd grade—along the benches near the school building

o    4th grade—along the back wall mural, near  Kane Street side.

o    5th grade—along the back wall mural near Baltic Street side.
