When it was first announced last December that P.S. 29’s beloved drama teacher, Mollie Lief, was not returning to the school in January after her maternity leave, many students feared that the fifth-grade play might be cancelled.

Fortunately, Emma Fitzpatrick, the school’s music teacher, stepped up to direct the school musical this spring with the help of third-grade teacher aka co-director Monica Salazar-Austin, fifth-grade teacher Adam Gerloff and substitute teacher Lourdes O’Keefe, assisting with production.

The play, an adaptation of the story of Peter Pan, was cast back in January and the players have been rehearsing ever since in anticipation of the show’s four performances this weekend. Recently, 29 Post reporters Dagmar Jeppesen (5-500) and Sasha Meier (5-500) went behind the scenes to find out how things are going and to talk to some of the actors about their roles. Listen to their report and look for the third podcast in this series after the show is complete.
